Raul is a computer engineer turned into a neuroscientist. With more than 17 years of experience in research, he is the president of the Transylvanian Institute of Neuroscience (TINS), the partner of Neurodynamics. Raul received his PhD in Computer Science in 2005 and has performed his post-doctoral studies at the Max Planck Institute for Brain Research in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. In 2018 he received the title of scientist grade I (CS-I), equivalent to a full professorship. During his research Raul built early models of object recognition using deep learning in large spiking-neuron architectures and has developed innovative methods for image processing and pattern recognition based on neural technology.

An electronic engineer by training, with experience in signal processing, Vlad is fascinated by the beautiful circuitry of the brain and by what can be learnt from it. During his PhD, Vlad has studied at Max Plank institute for Brain Research in Frankfurt am Main and at the Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies. Currently, he is senior researcher and vice-president of the Transylvanian Institute of Neuroscience (TINS, partner of Neurodynamics). Vlad has investigated the dynamics of spiking neural networks, visual perception, and has contributed to the development of innovative analysis methods including image processing inspired by the visual system.
